Procedures for admission to AMTAC membership and register of arbitrators, mediators and experts.
AMTAC Membership
An individual or organisation with an interest in maritime or transport arbitration or mediation may become a member of AMTAC following the submission of an application for membership to AMTAC and approval by the AMTAC Executive at no charge.
An application for membership shall include:
- contact information for the applicant including name, address and telephone number, and
- an statement of whether the membership is to be on an individual basis or as a representative of an organisation.
- Admission requires that an applicant be proposed by one AMTAC member and seconded by another. That individual or organisation shall be deemed to be accepted if supported by a majority of the AMTAC Executive for admission.
AMTAC register
An individual may be added to the AMTAC register of arbitrators, mediators or experts (or any combination of these) following the submission of an application for membership to AMTAC and approval by the AMTAC Executive at a charge of AUD$100, exclusive of GST, per annum.
An application for inclusion on the AMTAC register of arbitrators, mediators or experts shall include:
- contact information for the applicant including name, address and telephone number
- a statement of which register the application seeks inclusion on
- an outline of the experience of the applicant; either as an arbitrator, mediator or expert (or any combination of these)
- information concerning any relevant qualifications, and
- information concerning membership of relevant professional associations.
Additionally, applicants seeking inclusion on the register of arbitrators or mediators shall also include:
For Arbitrators:
- an undertaking to comply with the AMTAC Arbitration Rules when conducting arbitration under the auspices of AMTAC
For Mediators:
- an undertaking to comply with the AMTAC Mediation Rules when conducting mediation under the auspices of AMTAC.
Admission requires that an applicant be proposed by one AMTAC member and seconded by another. That individual shall be deemed to be accepted onto the relevant register if supported by a majority of the AMTAC Executive for inclusion.
Finality
Admission to the list of members or to the register is a privilege and does not confer rights. An individual or organisation may be removed from the list of members or from the register at any time upon the motion of a member of the AMTAC Executive, if endorsed by a majority of the AMTAC Executive. A decision of the AMTAC Executive is intended to be conclusive and need not be accompanied by a statement of reasons.
